Máté Fazekas is in the national team squad

From the last day of September, the men's handball national team will hold a five-day training camp during the unofficial national team period. Head coach Chema Rodríguez has called up our player, Máté Fazekas, to the 19-player squad.

Thanks to an agreement with the clubs in the Hungarian National Championship (NB I), the Spanish head coach will be able to work with the players during this period.

The coaching staff will use these days to expand the national team roster, focusing on identifying young players under the age of 23 who could be included in the national team in the near or distant future.

„I mainly invited players who were part of the 2023 junior world championship silver medal-winning team or this year's youth European championship bronze medal-winning team, those currently in the junior squad, and players we have been monitoring for some time who have occasionally or regularly been part of the national team. The handball players competing in the Olympics have had a long, eventful, and exhausting summer, so those playing domestically are also getting a break now, as they could only join their clubs' preparations later, around mid-August, due to the Paris Games. However, the league and European cup programs are now in full swing, so we need to manage their workloads wisely." – explained Chema Rodríguez.

Our young player reacted to the national team call-up as follows: „I was very surprised when I found out that Chema Rodríguez called me up for this five-day training camp. It has been a childhood dream of mine to be part of the senior national team, where my skills and abilities can be evaluated. I know that I have to work hard to actually become a part of the squad. That's why I train every day to be the best I can and to continue improving. I would like to thank the head coach and the coaching staff for their trust in me, and I hope to repay that with productive work." — said Máté.
